I think I need a background for myself, wherever I come. But as soon i feel I have found it, I disappear in it. My own self becomes invisible.
Painters had always tried to remake nature with paint, but the result was just a surface, a reproduction, in fact, fake. I choose another method, paint myself into the nature. I try to convince everybody that such clumsy efforts are more successful than any professional painterly skills.
In order to understand landscape you have to become a part of it. Does landscape exist at all? At least linear perspective is an illusion. A born blind person can never imagine diminishing and receding objects in space. At the same time you can become landscape if you want it very much.
Of course we are free to look any direction our neck allows us. Let us look up. Skies. Down is the earth. Earth pulls us down. Skies lift us up. We are somewhere in between. Horizon is important, there things do meet. If I vanish in landscape, who will be the judge?
